The last few times I have hosted a network game, we have had problems with other players being disconnected(unable to play) in the middle of the game. If they reconnect and try to assume the current player it never seems to work. Tonight I played with someone else hosting and another player and myself both had issues with the game freezing up in mid game. The odd thing was that I wasn't disconnected from the server after this happened. I tried to disconnect and reconnect but could not assume my player. The past three network games I played had to be scraped because of players getting dropped from the game. I don't think it is a connection issue as much as a server issue or glitch in the game, but I'm certainly not an expert. I love the game but I am getting frustrated. Last week we got to Year 5 and had to let the AI's decide it after player dropouts. It is tough to devote hours to a game and not be able to finish. I have a cable connection and the latest version of Java. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated!!!
Re: player dropouts in Risk 2210
I am aware that the "assume player" options are buggy, since they were late experimental additions. But I'm a little confused about the "dropping" issue. We haven't had any bug reports of the server dropping people....
The best workaround I can think of is to save the game periodically. I'm pretty sure we got saving and loading to work for network games at least.
I'm sorry you weren't able to finish those games; that is pretty annoying.
It's possible that a bug in the game rules would cause a client to freeze, but if you're using standard 2210 rules it's unlikely (because so many people have tested them).
